About Kidsland

Welcome to Kidsland Daycare Centres & Out of School Programs

Our programs are designed for infants to school-aged children.
See individual locations for details. We provide a safe, play based, nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional cognitive and creative development of children. We believe that development can be accomplished through play.

Play, child initiated, child directed and teacher supported is an essential component of our program. Play, independent, social and co-operative becomes a very powerful process of development.

Our teachers are facilitators for such play. They prepare the environment that provides stimulating, challenging materials, experiences and equipment for children. Children have the opportunity to direct their own activities. Then our teachers listen, observe, support and interact to extend and enhance play.

Our Out-of-School Programs are designed to extend the school learning experience. As well, we give the opportunity for children to relax and unwind after a full day at school.

Although we have planned activities, it is the child’s choice to join them. Field trips, films etc. are included in the program whenever possible. At all times, children will be suitably guided, protected and supervised.

Our Building Blocks

Currently, all four of our Kidsland Daycare locations provide the following:

• Daily meals and snacks
School Transportation Provided
• Summer programs for school ages
• Alberta Child Care Accreditation

The philosophy of Kidsland provides an environment, which supports and promotes the optimum development of each child in all areas. We believe that each child is an individual and has a unique rate of development, which can be accomplished through play. The emphasis will be on the concept of play. Play is viewed as a fun and exciting hands-on child experience. We will be providing the children with a variety of activities to stimulate inspire and challenge: therefore; enabling problem solving, individual creativity and social skills.

We encourage parent input on every aspect of our program. We believe that childcare staff and parents come together to provide a constantly improving program that benefits everyone involved. Parent involvement is a large part of our centre’s success.

Our primary goal is to provide high quality care for children in a safe, secure and positive environment. This atmosphere will assist the total development of each child at his/her own pace.

Teachers are loving, caring and involved in planning a quality program that gives children opportunities
to explore, experiment and develop creativity. The program gives children opportunities to socialize with others, learn socially acceptable behavior, encouraging self-esteem and independence.

We believe that children learn meaningfully through play, which is avery powerful process in each child’s development.

• Promote children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth and development experiences to foster development of the whole child, while allowing for individuality.

• Create a healthy and safe environment for the children.
• Provide good nutrition to help children reach optimal growth and development.
• Provide and recognize diversity of culture, ethnicity, families and society.
• To establish and maintain interactions between parents and staff.
• To provide a rich environment that develops and fosters children’s language skills  and communication skill.
• All staff are expected to adhere to the NAEYC code of ethics at all time.

All Kidsland Daycares are accredited through the Alberta Child Care Accreditation process.

Accreditation promotes excellence in child care settings in Alberta and helps families choose the best care for their children. It is based on standards of excellence that reflect current research and leading practices to provide high quality child care over and above licensing regulations for children from birth to 12 years of age.
Accreditation standards are above and beyond the licensing requirements (for day care and out-of-school care programs) and focus on outcomes for children, families, staff and community to support children’s optimal early learning and development.

Accreditation Standards were reviewed through research and Provincial consultations in 2011-2012 to ensure they reflect the current research and leading practices in child care. Based on the review results and feedback received, Accreditation Standards incorporated a number of enhancements and were aligned to streamline the accreditation process in 2013.

Accredited programs have completed a rigorous self-evaluation and quality enhancement process, and have been recognized by the Association for Accreditation of Early Learning and Care Services (AELCS) as meeting the accreditation standards of excellence. Programs that have achieved accreditation status are valid for a term of three years with an annual administrative review.

Accredited programs:
Have committed to meet the accreditation standards at all times;

Continue to work on quality improvement in accordance with the strategies set in their Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP);
Undergo annual reviews through submission of evidence to AELCS; and
Are subject to unannounced status verification visits.
