What Does This Agreement Aim to Do?

The agreement will support families with children not yet in Grade 1 by:

  • Reducing licensed childcare fees by an AVERAGE of 50 per cent for all families starting in 2022.

  • Lowering fees to an average of $10 per day per child by 2026.

Kidsland has reduced childcare fees in two ways:

  • By receiving operating grants that have directly reduce child care fees

  • By applying the Childcare Subsidy Program with new rates and qualifying family incomes.

What Does This Mean for Kidsland’s Childcare Fees?

Below are examples of the parent portion of childcare fees.

Infant (Per Month)

  • $1,240 (Total Fees)

  • $635 (Grant to Kidsland)

  • $266 (Parent subsidy-income qualified)
  • $339 (Parent portion of childcare fees)

Toddler (Per Month)

  • $1,225 (Total Fees)

  • $510 (Grant to Kidsland)

  • $266 (Parent subsidy-income qualified)
  • $449 (Parent portion of childcare fees)

4 Year Old (Per Month)

  • $1,140 (Total Fees)

  • $450 (Grant to Kidsland)

  • $266 (Parent subsidy-income qualified)
  • $424 (Parent portion of childcare fees)

How Does The Parent Subsidy Affect Kidsland Families?

As of January 2022, the qualifying income for Child Care Subsidy has increased to $179,999, making additional support available to more families who have young children not yet attending Grade 1.

To further lower fees to families who need it most, subsidy rates and qualifying incomes have been adjusted, along with operational grants to childcare programs. Therefore, more Albertans are eligible for childcare subsidy.

Families with Children not yet in Grade 1, meet other Child Care Subsidy eligibility criteria and earn a gross household income under $180,000 can apply for childcare subsidy starting January 2022.

  • Partial subsidy is available to families with incomes from $120,000 to $179,000.
